President of the United States Barack Obama has announced that an additional 250 military personnel will be deployed in Syria to support the local militia fighting against the Islamic State.
This will bring the number of special forces deployed in the country to 300 troops.
However, Obama stressed that the US troops will not be leading the battle on ground but they will assist and train the local forces.
“Make no mistake, these terrorists will learn the same lesson as others before them have; which is ‘your hatred is no match for our nations united in the defense of our way of life,” he said in Hannover, Germany.
President Obama is currently in Hannover, where he is holding talks with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The two leaders will be joined on Monday by the leaders from Britain, France and Italy to discuss the course of fight against the Islamic State.
