Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif met Kashmiri separatists in Muzaffarabad on Friday and assured them he would highlight their issue at the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Sharif’s meeting with members of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) was also attended by Pakistan-occupied Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan and PM Raja Farooq Haider.
“Atrocities by Indian security forces against innocent Kashmiris has touched extremes. Pakistan will continue to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiris,” a statement issued by Sharif’s office said. “Oppression is destined to end, and truth will prevail,” it stated.
“The movement of Kashmiris will ultimately succeed as history has precedents that such movements could not be suppressed with oppression,” Sharif added. “We’ll continue to strive for Kashmir’s right to self-determination.”
Sharif is likely to deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly session on September 21.
