An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 hit the Pacific island of Vanuatu on Friday, according to United States Geological Survey (USGS).

An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 hit the Pacific island of Vanuatu on Friday, according to United States Geological Survey (USGS).

According to reports, the epicentre was located 535 km southeast of Vanuatu, about 10 km below sea level.

An aftershock of magnitude 5.4 was reported after the earthquake.

Another earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck 460 km southwest of the Polynesian kingdom of Tonga, merely 90 minutes after the earthquake in Vanuatu.

After the earthquake, a tsunami warning had been issued which has now been called off.

Thus far, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported.
