Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness Dalai Lama on Wednesday celebrated his
81st birthday at Tibetan settlement in Mungod.
However, the celebrations are being held at various loactions across the country,
including at Siliguri, West Bengal and at Shimla in Himachal Pradesh.
Spokesperson of Tibetan government in-exile, Tashi Phungstok said, “There will be few prize distributions and book release. There will also be dances by different schools.
The celebration will be attended by the Sikyong, who is the leader of the Central Tibetan
Administration Sikyong and speaker of Tibetan parliament in-exile.”
The 14th Dalai Lama was born on 6 July 1935 in Taktser village of Amdo, Tibet and was selected as the ‘Tulku’ of the 13th Dalai Lama in 1935.
He was formally recognized as the 14th Dalai Lama at a public declaration near the town of Bumchen in 1939.
