Hurricane Matthew reaches US after Haiti

The Death toll of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti has reached a staggering 478 people according to local civil protection officers, as more information comes into light from remote areas earlier cut off by the storm. After the devastation in Haiti, Hurricane Matthew hit Florida on Friday as one of the most major hurricanes threatening a direct hit on United States in 10 years.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Matthew packed gusts of 160 kph as it hit Florida’s east coast, while the eye of the storm was 40 km east of Cape Canaveral, USA’s famous Air Force /Space Station.

The storm resulted in power outage for nearly 3 lakh households in Florida, although no significant damages or injuries have been reported.

US President Barack Obama has declared a state of emergency in Florida and the neighboring states of South Carolina and Georgia.
