Nadia Murad, a former ISIS sex slave, has now been selected as United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for human trafficking.

Murad, was merely 19, when she was taken captive from when the ISIS took over her village in Iraq. She remained captive for three months after witnessing the brutal killing of her father and brother. Being a non-muslim, her captors took no mercy and raped her and beat her several times.

An escape attmept by Murad was met with cruel retribution. She was gangraped by six men following which, she lost consciousness.

“During her Ambassadorship, Nadia will focus on advocacy initiatives and raise awareness around the plight of the countless victims of trafficking,” stated a UN announcement.

She recounted her tale during the United Nations Security Council in 2015. Murad revealed the gruesome torture ISIS sex slaves experience. She says that ‘slaves’ were made to pray before being raped. Nadia managed to escape the torture and sought asylum in Germany.

Nadia is positive that her position will help bring an end to this monstrosity. Her website states that she is “dedicated to helping women and children victimized by genocide, mass atrocities and human trafficking, heal and re-build their lives and communities”.
