A strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off Japan’s southwest coast on Friday, the US Geological Survey said.

USGS and the Japan Meteorological Agency added that the quake hit at 11:39 am (0239 GMT) off the coast of Japan’s main Honshu island, at a location about 350 kilometres (395 miles) southwest of Tokyo,

The quake was measured at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometres.

No damage or injuries were immediately reported though heavy shaking forced some of the country’s bullet trains to temporarily stop running, public broadcaster NHK reported.
