Ali Haider Gilani-abducted son of a former Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Gilani was at last rescued on Monday, three years after his abduction.
“In an operation by Afghan Special Forces in Ghanzi Province this morning, Mr Ali Haidar Gilani, the son of Pakistan former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was recovered after three years of captivity from an al Qaeda-affiliated group,” Afghan ambassador Omar Zakhilwal said in a Facebook post.
On May 9, 2013, Haider was kidnapped by suspected Taliban militants in a hail of gunfire from outskirts of Multan in Punjab province.
In May last year, he was able to make a phone call to his father Yousuf Raza Gilani.
