The seven-year old Japanese boy, who was abandoned by his parents last Saturday for being naughty and throwing stones at cars, was found unharmed on Friday.

According to reports, Yamato Tanooka was discovered inside the building of an old Self-Defence Forces training facility nearly 4 Km from the place he disappeared after his parents left him by the side of a road.

The soldier who discovered him gave him gave him two rice balls, which he gulped quickly.

The soldier said that the boy was worn out but was ‘genki’, Japanese word for healthy children.

Yamato was taken to a hospital, wherein the doctors found no serious health risks except minor scratches and dehydration.

Local media reported that the boy survived by sleeping betweem two mattresses inside the abandoned military dormitory. He had been drinking water from a tap outside the building.

Yamato’s disappearce had sent the entire country in a frenzy. A massive search operation including 180 people and search dogs was launched to rescue him.

The military officials expressed their admiration for the boy’s perseverance, as the place where he was found was far from the place he disappeared and involved a rigorous uphill climb.

While the nation welcomed the boy’s safe return, his father apologised for causing him such pain.
