The locals in the Chhavani area in Meerut were in a state of panic on Tuesday after a leopard was spotted near the Army hospital, a forest official said.

The leopard was spotted around 8 am at C block of Race Course Marg, near the Army hospital, conservator of forests, H K Awasthi said.

Army personnel and forest officials reached the spot and cordoned off the area. Watch the video here:

Awasthi said the area has been sealed as a precautionary measure and people have been cautioned not to venture there.

Forest officials have been alerted in Meerut, Noida and adjoining areas and the hunt is on for the leopard. Superintendent of police Om Prakash said the schools in the area have been closed as a safety measure.

Earlier also a leopard had entered a hospital in Begumpur area here. The leopard had mauled several people but the forest officials were unable to catch it.
