The concept of World Radio Day was suggested by the Spanish Radio Academy in 2010, to honour the contributions of the radio. Approved by the United Nations in 2011, the first World Radio Day was celebrated on February 13, 2012, the exact day the United Nations Radio was developed in 1946.
