medalbite17 days of brilliant athletic performances in the Rio Olympics came to an end on Sunday with United States leading the medal tally with 46 Gold Medals, followed by Great Britain with 27 Gold Medals and China with 26.

But, have you ever noticed a trend that why do Olympians bite their medals while posing for pictures?  This act has a very interesting history behind it.

One common reason is that, Winners indulge in the act of biting into their medals to make sure it is real.

According to the reports, No medals have been made from solid gold since 1912. Gold medals are actually made of 494g of silver and 6g of gold.

Another point of view is that the photographers instruct them to do so as it may create a more iconic shot that would be easier to monetize.
