The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Monday submitted an affidavit in the Delhi High Court (HC) in response to wrestler Sushil Kumar’s plea seeking trials for the 74kg class be held to enable him secure a berth in the Indian wrestling squad for the upcoming Rio Olympics. The HC will take up the matter for hearing on May 27.
Earlier, HC on May 17 directed the WFI to consider Olympic medallist Kumar’s plea to hold a trial between him and Narsingh Yadav to decide India’s representative.
Yadav had secured a quota for India in the 74 kg category during the Wrestling World Championships in Las Vegas last year and was thought to be the Indian representative for the Olympics. However, Kumar challenged that assumption and has called for a bout between him and Yadav to decide who takes the berth.
