In a rather shocking incident, Indian tennis star Leander Paes has not been assigned a room to stay in the Rio Olympics games village by the organising committee.
The six-time Olympian, who arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday evening, said that he was extremely disappointed as he didn’t expect such a treatment.
“I am slightly disappointed that having played six Olympics for India, I haven’t been given a place to stay. I was playing a tournament in New York and took the first flight on its completion. The match got over at 8 and took a 10.45 flight to Rio,” Paes said in a statement to the Times Of India.
Paes reportedly had to change in the room of Chef De Mission Rakesh Gupta.
Coach Zeeshan Ali also supported the player, asserting that claims of Paes not wanting to live in the village were false.
A day before this incident, there were speculations that Paes did not want to share a room with Rohan Bopanna but Zeeshan rubbished this claims saying he never made such a demand and that the organisers were aware that he was reaching the venue on August 4.
