India endured a largely disappointing day at the ongoing Rio Olympics on Monday with star shooter Abhinav Bindra finishing 4th and Men’s Hockey team losing to Germany.
In men’s 10m Air Rifle Final, Abhinav Bindra finished 4th with a score of 163.8.
Bindra started well, but a couple of wayward shots cost him dearly as he lost in the bronze medal play-off to finish fourth with a total score of 163.8.
Monday’s disappointment will see the curtains come down on the glittering career of the 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medallist — India’s only individual Olympic gold — as he had earlier announced that he will announce his international retirement after the Rio Olympics
In men’s Hockey, India’s hockey team conceded a goal barely three seconds from the hooter to lose 1-2 to Germany in its second match of the pool phase in the Olympic Games here on Monday.
Christopher Ruhr deflected the ball from close range in the dying moments as Germany earned a crucial win in a Pool B match that India deserved a point.
Niklas Wellen scored in the 18th minute to give the two-time defending champions the lead before Rupinder Pal Singh (23rd) brought India level with his third goal in two matches.
On the other hand, Indian archer Laxmirani Majhi bowed out of the women’s individual event beaten 101-108 by Slovakian Alexandra Longova at the Rio Olympics here on Monday.
Laxmirani trailed for the very beginning of the contest and lost three of the four rounds of arching.
Thus, Monday proved to be a tough day for Indian contingent.
Moreover, the list of disappointment doesn’t end here, other names, who faced defeat on the day include:Indian shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu (fails to qualify for semifinal in Men’s trap event), shooter Kynan Chenai (fails to qualify for semifinal in Men’s trap event).
