Ace Indian athlete Milkha Singh on Sunday slammed Indian Olympic Association’s move to name Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as the Goodwill Ambassador representing India at Rio Olympics 2016.
“IOA has taken wrong decision. We don’t need any ambassador. Sportsmen representing nation in Rio Olympics 2016 are our ambassador,” he said in a statement.
“IOA shouldn’t have made a Bollywood person ambassador for sports event.”
“Will they make a sports person an ambassador for Bollywood function? Govt must intervene. IOA must reconsider its decision,” he said while suggesting the names of PT Usha, Rajvardhan Singh Rathore and Ajit Pal in place of Khan as the goodwill ambassador.
Meanwhile, IOA Vice President Tarlochan Singh defended the move by the body saying that the youth look towards such celebrities and there was no harm in utilizing the trend.
