Citizens of Agartala in Tripura conducted a prayer meet on Sunday for Dipa Karmakar’s victory in the Women’s Vault finals.
India’s lone gymnastic medal hope, Dipa Karmakar, is to perform in the Women’s Vault finals later on Sunday.
“Entire country is with her and are praying for her. I’m sure she’ll succeed,” says proud father Dulal Karmakar.
He adds, “I’m very tensed. Entire country has lot of expectations from her, with them even I hope that she is able to clinch a medal.”
Dipa, who hails from Agartala, scripted history as she became the first Indian female to ever compete at the Olympics.
Dipa is also only the second Indian gymnast to have won a Commonwealth Games medal (2014). A five-time national overall individual champion between 2010-2014, Karmakar was given the Arjuna Award last year.
