steve-smith-adelaide-ton (1)Following India’s dramatic comeback to win the second Test in Bengaluru and level the series 1-1 against Australia, all eyes are now on the third game as the Jharkhand State Cricket Association International Stadium gears up to host its first ever five-day game in Ranchi.

While Australia is one win away from retaining the Border-Gavaskar trophy after their victory in the Pune Test, India needs to win the match to keep the series alive.

Here are highlights from Ranchi Test:

STUMPS! Australia 299/4 on day 1 with captain Steven Smith unbeaten on 117 and Glenn Maxwell unbeaten on 82.

Smith and Maxwell put together 159 runs on Day 1 of the 3rd Test

150-run Partnership!
Smith and Maxwell have really put a great score together

Australia moves towards the 300-run mark

India have taken the second new ball and UmeshYadav has been introduced into the attack now, Ajinkya Rahane expecting Umesh to do something with his extra pace.

FOUR!
Smith continues his dominance of Ashwin and gets another boundary away. Ashwin has not looked at his lethal best today, Australia 288/4

Big shout for LBW, the ball hits Maxwell’s front leg. The Indians look interested in a review but wicket-keeper Saha indicates the ball would have gone down the leg. Australia 279/4

CENTURY! And there it is, Australian captain Steve Smith hits his second century in this series, to reach his 19th Test century

Murali Vijay comes in to roll his arm over. Is hit for a boundary by Maxwell as Australia’s score moves past the 250-run mark. Smith on 97 and Maxwell on 61.

Maxwell now just six away from a Test 50. Australia’s score reads 233/4

Another two runs for Maxwell as he moves to the 40s. It was an inside edge from a drive and Rahane runs in from deep mid-wicket but cannot stop the double. Australia’s score reads 229/4

SIX!
First boundary for Maxwell and that is a huge six off Jadeja. Australia’s score reads 207/4

The review has been given back to the Indian team. The explanation is that the on-field umpire missed to spot the no-ball and the Indian team went for the DRS review only because they thought it was legitimate delivery. So the wasted review has been given back to India.

Ishant starts proceedings in the post tea session. Australia’s score reads 194/4

Tea Time!
Second session ends as Australia are at 194/4 with Steve Smith batting at 80 and Glenn Maxwell batting at 19.

Umesh wraps Maxwell on the pads and there is a slight edge, but that was clearly going down the leg side. Australia’s score reads 157/4

Maxwell comes in.

WICKET! Handscomb (19) is gone again after getting a start. The ball from Umesh rams into the boot of Handscomb. Umesh appeals and the umpire takes less than a minute to raise the finger. Australia’s score reads 140/4

Kohli is INJURED! Handscomb went down the track to flick Jadeja and Kohli gave chase. Just as the ball neared the mid-wicket boundary, Kohli used the dive to save the boundary. But ended up hurting his shoulder. Kohli walks off the field. Hopefully nothing serious as the physio has a look at him. Australia’s score reads 132/3

Lunch! So this is lunch on the first Day in Ranchi. Australia’s score reads 109/3 with Smith batting on 34 and Handscomb on 6.

Smith gets a lucky boundary here off Umesh.

Now Umesh appeals as the ball wraps Handscomb on the pads. But that was going down the leg and the Indians didn’t use the DRS. Australia’s score reads 96/2

Handscomb starts off in style. Australia’s score reads 93/2

WICKET!
Ashwin pitched that on the legs of Shaun Marsh and the ball clearly hits the bat and then the pad. Umpire does not move and the Indians go for a DRS. The review shows Marsh (2) is gone. India get their third in the first session. Australia’s score reads 89/3

Smith dances down the track to hit Ashwin straight and. Two runs for Smith as Australia’s score reads 88/2

WICKET!
Renshaw goes down for 44. He was caught by Kolhi on Umesh Yadav’s ball. Australia’s score reads 80/2

First false shot from Renshaw as he looks to drive Ashwin and the balls almost lands in the bowler’s palm. Australia’s score reads 78/1

An appeal from the Indians as Renshaw tries to flick that one and the ball hits the pad and goes straight to Rahane at first slip off Jadeja’s ball. No review asked for in this case. Australia’s score reads 75/1

Jadeja bowls to Smith and the Australia skipper whips that one away as Ashwin literally guides that one to the fence. Australia’s score reads 68/1

Ishant again straying down the leg-side and easy pickings for Renshaw. Another boundary to his name. Australia 22 for 0.

Renshaw picks up his third boundary of the innings using the pace of the ball and steers it down through the vacant third-man region.

Great comeback by Renshaw. Clipped it through the on-side and picks up a boundary.

Huge Appeal for LBW! Great length and caught Renshaw in the crease. The umpire rules it in favour of the batsman. Replays suggest it pitched outside leg-stump.

Good delivery from Ishant. Caught Renshaw in two minds. Beaten at the end outside off-stump.

Australia 6 for 0 after 2 overs.

Umesh Yadav to share the new ball with Ishant Sharma. Warner gets off the mark straight away with a couple.

Four! First runs for Australia. Renshaw tucks it away off his legs for a boundary.

Ishant Sharma to start proceedings for India with the new ball. Matt Renshaw to take first strike.
