Virender Sehwag, a genius, built an extraordinary career with a relentless quest. As a starry-eyed boy, like many others from his generation wanted to be Sachin Tendulkar. He couldn’t. But as he turns 38 today Master Blaster Tendulkar came forward in Viru Style. Sehwag’s most prolific partner in the middle, Sachin Tendulkar led the bunch of former and current cricketers taking to twitter to wish Sehwag on his birthday.
“He’s the sweetest man who has caused so much destruction! Happy Birthday Lala!,” wrote Tendulkar on the microblogging website.
With minimal footwork but maximum intent, Viru has piled Test runs at a faster pace than anyone in the history of cricket. Bowlers must always imagine their chances against a batsman who had plenty of strokes. But it was just that Sehwag fancied his chances against them much more. Sehwag received a special wish from the down under.
Shane Warne, most dangerous bowler of all time took to twitter to wish Nawab of Najafgarh. “Happy birthday my friend, the game of cricket misses your exciting batting and all round entertainment!” wrote the former Aussie leg-spinner.
Current India coach Anil Kumble known for his calm and composed demeanour, also wished Sehwag in his typical style. “Happy birthday Viru. Enjoy the day and the year ahead. God bless!,” wrote from Delhi.
The most remarkable aspect of Sehwag’s career has been his ability to build massive scores at breathtaking speed. Now, after the retirement Viru has built a reputation for being an extremely amusing and entertaining person. Sehwag, a celebrated batsman for his swashbuckling hitting is enjoying his illustrious second innings with his unique style on Twitter and commentary box. Viru retired a year back and has been visible in his banter with many personalities now. Undoubtedly, Sehwag is equally refreshing off the field with his wonderfully direct and candid manner.
