ANIlThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday named India’s former leg-spinner and Test team captain Anil Kumble as the head coach of the Indian national cricket team.

“Anil Kumble will be the next head of the Indian cricket team,” BCCI president Anurag Thakur said while addressing the press conference.

The Indian cricket board’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising former star batsmen Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and V V S Laxman, interviewed 21 candidates, including Venkatesh Prasad, Sandeep Patil and others, who have applied to be the head coach of the national team.

The board had received a total of 57 responses to its advertisement for the job, and 21 of them were shortlisted for the advisory committee to review.
