Graffiti or writings on the wall are not unaccustomed in India, but when it is drawn for a cause, it becomes more than just random scribbling. For FTII students, campus graffiti has become an act of revolution. And this time, it's against Gajendra Chauhan's appointment as FTII Chairman.
'Strike Is On'
As the protest against Chauhan's appointment as FTII Chairman gathers more support from the film fraternity, the students are coming up with graffiti in the campus, calling for 'Go Back Chauhan'.
Among the most prominent faces who have come in support of the students' protest is Salman Khan. Actors Rishi Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Piyush Mishra and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and filmmakers Kundan Shah, Aziz Mirza, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Sudhir Mishra and Kiran Rao have also supported the students' demands that Chauhan should step down as the FTII Chairman.
'Art Takes Courage'
The students at the Film and Television Institute of India have been on strike since 12 June after the surprise appointment of television actor-turned-politician Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the institute.
'Creativity Is The Greatest Rebellion'
Chauhan is best known for playing the character of Yudhisthir in BR Chopra's 1998 TV series Mahabharata.
'Strike Is On'
According to reports, the names of Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Gulzaar and Shyam Benegal were among the recommendations for the post.
'Rebel Is A Man Who Says No'
However, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (MoS, Information and Broadcasting) ignored these recommendations and Chauhan was appointed as the FTII Chairman.
