A new study has confirmed that 10 risk factors of stroke identified across the world earlier this year account for 9 in 10 strokes. Thus, prevention from these risk factors can provide us 90% protection from stroke.
Here are the tips:
Control your blood pressure: According to the study, high blood pressure remains the single most important modifiable risk factor for stroke. Addressing hypertension, could cut risk of stroke by half.
Engage into physical activity: According to the study, 35.8% of stroke are caused due to lack of physical activity.
Eat healthy: 23.2% strokes are caused by poor diet. Thus, improving your diet can work as a protection shield from this risk factor.
Control your sugar level: 3.9% stroke cases are reported due to diabetes.
Relieve and rejuvenate self: Stress can cause number of physical and mental health problems, stroke is one of them. According to study, 5.8% of cases are reported due to stress. To be healthy, rejuvenate yourself time and again.
Quitting smoking and fight against obesity are two other ways to fight stroke, says study.
The study was conducted by Dr Martin O’Donnell and Prof Salim Yusuf of the McMaster University, along with collaborators from 32 countries and was published in ‘The Lancet.’
