Congress’ Harish Rawat has won the Assembly floor test, Attorney General Mukul Rohtagi told the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
He also told the court that the Centre will now revoke President’s Rule in the state as Rawat got 33 votes out of 61 qualified members.
The results were announced as the conclusion of a floor test that was conducted on Tuesday to ascertain whether Rawat still enjoys a majority in the House.
The results didn’t come as a surprise to Congress as it was sure of its win and kicked of victory celebrations soon after the floor test concluded.
The apex court said now Harish Rawat can take charge as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
Congress leaders yesterday hailed the floor test as a “victory for democracy”.
