The jailbreak from Punjab’s high-security Nabha jail led to 6 prisoners escaping and among them one of the most wanted was Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) chief Harminder Singh Mintoo.
KLF Chief Harminder Singh Mintoo was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi in 2014 as he returned from Thailand after being deported from there, based on security and intelligence reports.
Initially, Mintoo was a part of the Wadhawa Singh-led Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist group before he left BKI in 2009 to revive the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF). In his attempts to revive and strengthen KLF, he sought foreign-based supporters and visited Pakistan, Italy, Belgium, Germany, France and other European countries for 11 months before arriving in Southeast Asia.

According to reports, Mintoo maintained close contact with Pakistan`s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) officers and was planning terrorist strikes in the region.
