A day after the alleged rape of a five-year-old Maratha girl by a young Dalit boy, whole city witnessed major protests as the villagers torched up government buses and pelted stones on the water convoys of Water resources minister Girish Mahajan.
The 16-year-old boy who allegedly tried to rape the five-year-old girl near Trimbakeshwar in Nashik has been taken into custody and a case has been registered under relevant section of Indian penal court.
As soon as the news spread, the villagers staged protests and damaged police vehicles. The police had to use tear gas shells and fire rounds
in air in order to disperse the crowd and take charge of the crowd.
The incident comes three months after a 14-year-old was gang raped and murdered in the kopradi village of Amednagar district.
Maharashtra water minister visited the family of the victim and termed the incident as unfortunate.
Chief Minister Devendra Fandavis has also appealed to the people of Talegaon to maintain calm and peace and has affirmed that the case would be tried in the fast track court.
