A gangster, who was earlier a member of a Maoist squad and was wanted in several cases including gunning down of an IPS officer in 1993, was on Monday killed in an exchange of fire with police in Shadnagar town of Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district.
“In an exchange of fire with local police Nayeemuddin has been killed,” a senior police official in the Intelligence wing told PTI.
Nayeemuddin was allegedly involved in many cases including gunning down of IPS officer K S Vyas at L B stadium in the city in 1993.
He was accused in cases of murder, killings for gain, extortion and kidnapping for past many years, police said, adding that an investigation was on in the matter.
Nayeemuddin is also suspected to have given information to the police on Sohrabuddin Sheikh, whose encounter killing by the Gujarat police in 2005 became hugely controversial.
In 2007, Nayeem allegedly tricked a police team and escaped after a court appearance saying he wanted to use the toilet.
