“Guru, ho gaye shuru!”
The Legislative Assembly Elections are to be held soon and Uttar Pradesh and Punjab elections are going to be very significant. Navjot Singh Sidhu has been a Lok Sabha MP twice from BJP. His wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu is a Health Minister in Akali-BJP alliance. However, at several occasions, the duo has shown their anguish to the party.
AAP seems to be very confident about being a strong contender in the upcoming elections in Punjab. The party chief Arvind Kejriwal has been very busy for the past few months, ascertaining support in Uttar Pradesh. Whether his input would be fruitful is unsure but his activities aren’t very different from other parties around elections. The world-over known Navjot Singh Sidhu has decided to leave BJP and has now joined AAP, coinciding with the speculations that arose earlier.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal called Sidhu an opportunist and that his absence makes no difference. Interestingly, Sidhu’s wife, Navjot Kaur is still a Health Minister in Badal’s cabinet.
BJP was aware of Sidhu’s intentions but, he quit the party despite efforts from members to convince him. BJP Leader Vijay Goel dismissed all questions over the resignation and did not comment. A large section of the party believes that Sidhu’s resignation would affect them badly.
AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal appreciated Sidhu’s move for resignation.
AAP had performed well in Lok Sabha Elections 2014 which maintains their stronghold in Punjab. AAP MP and comedian Bhagwant Mann was hopeful about his candidature but Sidhu’s arrival has shaken things up. Many other members seem positive about their candidature but a final decision is to be taken by Arvind Kejriwal. A senior leader of AAP said that both Sidhu and his wife would be joining AAP soon following which, events and rallies would be organised. Till the time our ‘Guru’ terms himself to be from AAP, we have got to wait and watch!
