A team of senior lawyers set up by the Supreme Court will on Thursday submit a report of the law and order breakdown that took place at the Patiala House Court on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the 6-member panel which includes senior lawyers Kapil Sibal, Rajeev Dhawan, Dushyant Dave, Ajit Sinha, AGN Rao and Harin Rawal, told court that there was an atmosphere of 'fear and terror' in the patiala house court.
The panel was empowered by supreme court to visit Patiala House Court and report back about the violence done by lawyers.
The lawyers came back to the apex court at 4 pm and confirmed reports that Kanhaiya was assaulted and said that the police failed to control the situation or contain the violence.
"We were abused and called ‘Pakistan ke dalle’ (pimps of Pakistan) and “beh……”, they said
"The protesting lawyers threw stones, flower pots on us as we reached the district court, they even verbally abused us' the panel said orally to SC bench.
"There is a serious threat to the life and safety of the accused (Kanhaiya) and this police will be unable to save him."the panel added.
SC has asked them to file the report today.
Earlier on Wednesday, as soon as Delhi Police brought JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar to the court, he was roughed up by the group of lawyers chanting 'Bharat Mata Ki jai'.
The lawyers also thrashed some journalists and students and resorted to stone pelting.
