A Chennai-bound train carrying a consignment of over Rs 300 crores of Reserve Bank Of India’s cash was robbed on Monday night.
According to reports, the Salem Express left Salem in Tamil Nadu on Monday night, carrying 226 boxes of RBI’s cash.
However, when the train reached Egmore station in Chennai, cops found that some of the boxes containing the currency notes had been tampered with.
According to a report in The New Indian Express, a hole, big enough for one person to enter, was drilled on top of the railway coach which was carrying the currencies.
“Around 5 crore was looted from train enroute to Chennai, RPF has registered case,probe underway,” said Ramasubramanyam,IG GRP.
