Minister of State General VK Singh will leave for Jeddah to assess the ground situation in Saudi Arabia tonight, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup said in a statement today.

“MoS General VK Singh is leaving for Jeddah tonight via Dubai. His on ground assessment will determine future course of action,” Swarup said.

The MEA spokesperson said that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh convened a meeting of community social workers and volunteers on monday and the ambassador apprised them of ongoing problems faced by Indian workers.

He also sought help from the community members in collecting info about affected workers.

“Info about each worker, about his total service, pending salary, desire to exit / continue / transfer is being collected separately,” he said while adding that a team of Embassy was separately working in Dammam.

“A team of Embassy is separately working in Dammam. Team is also in touch with affected workers in region,” he said.
