Indian activist Trupti Desai on Sunday expressed her gratitude over being allowed to enter Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai on Sunday.
“Really happy that no one objected us from entering Haji Ali Dargah, so many Muslim women supported us,” Desai said in a statement today.
Earlier on August 26, the Mumbai High Court in a historic verdict permitted the entry of women up to the restricted grave area of the famous Haji Ali Dargah on the rocks off Worli seashore.
The ruling by a division bench comprising Justice V.M. Kanade and Mohite Revati-Dhere came in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan and activists Noorjehan Niaz and Zakia Soman in November 2014.
