Supreme court of indiaThe Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing in the triple talaq matter till September 6 and asked all concerned respondents to frame the legal issues concerning the matter.

The court was hearing the petition filed by Shayara Bano.

Bano moved the court questioning the provision of the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act, 1937, which validated the practices of triple talaq, nikah halala (remarrying divorced husband without an intervening marriage with another man) and polygamy under Muslim personal laws.

Earlier, on Monday the apex court asked the Union government file a copy of its report assessing the impact of family laws on women with the court.
