ecigaretteThe Supreme Court on Wednesday asked all tobacco companies to implement larger pictorial warning on tobacco products immediately.

The decision by the apex court comes after the Karnataka Beedi Association challenged a Health Ministry notification that directed the companies to print warnings on 85% of the packaging area.

The Association had alleged that the notification violates India’s omnibus national tobacco control law, COTPA and Article 14 (Right to Equal Protection) and 19(1)(g) (Right to Commerce) of the Indian Constitution.

Hearing the case, the Karnataka High Court had then stayed the implementation of the pack warnings notification in a preliminary order.
