Rajiv Gandhi Assassination: Nalini's Plea Rejected By Madras HC
The Madras High Court rejected the plea of one, Nalini Sriharan, who is currently serving life imprisonment following her conviction in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

The Madras High Court rejected the plea of one, Nalini Sriharan, who is currently serving life imprisonment following her conviction in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

Nalini had pleaded for her release in accordance with a 1994 Government Order that allowed convicts who had served 20 years or more to be released. She currently serves time in a Vellore prison for women.

She was arrested on June 14, 1991 and has already served over 25 years. She was first given the death sentence but considering the birth of her female child and a mercy petition filed by Sonia Gandhi in 2000, her punishment was changed to life imprisonment.
Nalini claims that only four of the accused were given the death penalty while three were given life imprisonment out of the 26 people that were convicted in the assassination.

Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in a suicide bombing in Sriperumbudur ,Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991.
