Delhi High Court on Tuesday adjourned the matter on petition challenging the compensation and status of martyr given to Late RamKishan Grewal by Delhi Govt. The court will now pronounce it’s order on December 12, 2016
The ex-army man Ram Kishan Grewal, recently committed suicide in the national capital allegedly over his grievances on the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) issue. Advocate Avadh Kaushik has opposed the AAP government’s decision to declare Grewal a ‘martyr’.
The petition, filed by ex-paramilitary personnel Puranchand Arya, says that the granting of ‘martyr’ status will promote more suicides in the future for the sake of money. The petitioner has also asked the court to frame guidelines for granting martyr status by both the state and central governments.
On November 4th, ex-serviceman Grewal committed suicide by consuming poison at Janpath, allegedly over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, triggering a political firestorm and leading to dramatic scenes in the capital today, with police detaining Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
