Siliguri police on Monday introduced a “No Helmet No Petrol” policy to check errant two-wheeler riders.
Under this policy, petrol pumps have been forbidden from selling petrols to riders without helmet.
The step has been taken under a campaign aimed at reducing the number of accidents in the city.
According to reports, Siliguri cops have been asked to be on alert.
They will intercept bikers who are not wearing helmets on roads and impose fines on them and there will be surprise checks on petrol pumps to see whether they are selling oil to bikers without helmets.
If any pump is found to be flouting the order, a legal step will be taken against it.
