NirankariBaba Hardev Singh, Indian spiritual guru and the current leader of Sant Nirankari Mission, died in a car accident in Canada on Friday. He was 62.

“With profound pain and sorrow, this is to inform all that His Holiness Nirankari Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj has merged into this Almighty God. He was travelling in a car in Canada which met with a serious accident at about 5.00 am (IST) today,” a statement issued by Sant Nirankari Mandal said.

As per reports, Baba died in a car accident in Canada’s Montreal. Born to Gurbachan Singh and Kulwant Kaur on February 23, 1954, Baba Hardev Singh received his elementary education at home. After his early schooling at Rosary Public School, Sant Nirankari Colony, Delhi, in 1963 he joined Yadavindra Public School, Patiala, a boarding school. BJP Former Cabinet Minister Shahnawaz Hussain confirms the news, tweeting:


Post schooling, he studied at the Delhi University. In 1971, Baba Hardev Singh joined the Nirankari Sewa Dal as its primary member.

He had married Savinder Kaur in 1975. Baba Hardev Singh, who was popularly know as Nirankari Baba, headed the Sant Nirankari Mission. He took over as the chief of the mission in 1980 when his father Gurbachan Singh was assassinated. Sant Nirankari Mission was established in 1929 by Baba Buta Singh.
