The Supreme Court on Wednesday set the next date of hearing in the Rahul Gandhi defamation case for September 1.
Rahul Gandhi’s counsel Kapil Sibal told the court that the leader never accused Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as institution for assassinating Mahatma Gandhi.
The Apex Court was hearing a plea filed by Rahul Gandhi to quash defamation case filed against him by RSS.
Earlier in July, SC had raised questions on the procedure being followed by the magistrate in the defamation case against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi while deferring the hearing to August 23 on Rahul Gandhi’s appeal seeking quashing of complaint against him lodged for an alleged comment on RSS.
The apex court said that the trial court had asked police for a report following defamation complaint against R Gandhi instead of examining evidence themselves.
