Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Sunday announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation for the kin of the deceased in Mandi bus accident that occurred on Saturday night.
At least 12 people died and 43 were injured when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation bus en route to Rekong Peo from Dharamsala fell into the gorge near Jogindernagar, some 200 km from the state capital.
The death toll could increase as most of the injured were in critical condition, a police official said.
He said most of the injured have been admitted to Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College at Tanda in Kangra district and PGI in Chandigarh.
Eyewitnesses said the driver probably lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a turn.
