A Ludhiana College is again reported to have drawn lines between general class and SC/ST.
According to reports, Lajpat Rai DAV College, Jagraon, office has installed a separate biometric machine for SC/BC students outside the college.
While the attendance of general students is marked by teachers on registers, all SC students, who have applied for scholarship, have to mark their attendance on the biometric machine, claim reports.
The Indian Express quotes College principal Dr Karan Sharma stating that a separate biometric system was indeed started for SC/ST students but only after the college had received written orders from the Punjab education department to record attendance of students on biometric machine so that only deserving students would get scholarships.
However, decrying the practice as “unjust and unjustified”, the SC students alleged that it smacks of “discrimination” against them.
