Home Ministry on Tuesday issued an advisory to states and Union Territories, asking them not to tolerate any incidents of attack on individuals in the name of cow vigilantism.
According to reports, acknowledging the number of crimes committed in the name of protecting cows, in a note addressed to all the state/UT chief secretaries, the ministry asked them to promptly act against any person taking the law into his/her hands.
The advisory comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke out twice against vigilantism in the name of protecting cows.
The prime minister criticised “gau rakshaks” for the first time during a town hall address after a Dalit family was flogged in Una, Gujarat for skinning a dead cow. He spoke out again during an address to BJP workers in Hyderabad.
