An aide of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Munawwar Saleem was arrested today by Delhi Police under espionage charges.
The accused is alleged of having connection with espionage ring run by a Pakistan high commission official, which was uncovered earlier this week.
Accused is identified as Farhat, an aide of SP Rajya Sabha MP Saleem. He is currently being interogated, said Delhi crime branch officials.
Earlier this week, on Wednesday Delhi police arrested Pakistan high commission official Mehmood Akhtar along with two Indians. They were arrested while they were exchanging documents defence documents. Two Indians arrested along with Mehmood were identified as maulana Ramzan and Subhash Jangir.
Later, Mehmood Akhtar was declared persona non grata and asked to leave the country immediately within 48 hours. While Subhash and Maulana stayed behind the bars under the charges of sharing sensitive information, defence documents and details of the BSF with the ISI, which can breach national security.
Another accomplice of Akhtar, Shoaib, a Jodhpur-based passport and visa agent, was arrested near Jodhpur on October 27 evening.
