Following backlash on social media over a horse being given more importance than policemen who lost lives, the Uttarakhand Government has removed the statue of the police horse installed at the Police Lines.

Shaktiman died in April this year, weeks after his hind leg was hit over and over with a stick, allegedly by a BJP leader Ganesh Joshi.

The outrage over this incident of gross animal abuse grew so large that Joshi was even briefly arrested.

As a tribute to the horse, the statue which showed him with a red saddle rearing up majestically, was installed on Saturday; however, was removed on Tuedsay morning.
