President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Avtar Singh Makkar on Sunday denied all reports regarding the ban on media coverage at Golden Temple on the 32nd anniversary of Operation Bluestar on June 6 saying that press was free to cover the event.

“No ban on media, press completely free to cover event (Operation Bluestar anniversary-6th June),” Makkar said in a statement to the media.

“Media persons will be expected to do their work in a disciplined manner-SGPC Pres on 6th June event at Golden temple,” he added.

Earlier on Saturday, SGPC had banned media coverage in the premises of Golden Temple saying that media coverage could hurt the sentiments of the Sikh devotees.

In a letter written to Police Commissioner Amar Singh Chahal and District Public Relation Officer Sherjang Singh Hundal, SGPC Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh sought help of the police to keep the media away from the periphery of Golden Temple on June 6 morning when the anniversary of Operation Bluestar is to be observed.
