Ruby Rai, the controversial Arts topper of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), who was sent to judicial custody after she failed a re-test at the boards office, has been proved to be a minor on Monday. She will now be sent to a juvenile home.
The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) Class XII Arts topper, was treated as an adult and sent to Beur jail after her arrest in June last week. Her Class X certificate issued by the BSEB shows her date of birth as November 15, 1998, which means she is yet to turn 18.
The topper, who failed the retest leading to the cancellation of her result, was earlier arrested from the BSEB office in Patna. As she or her guardians did not claim that she was a minor, the Patna Special Vigilance court sent her to Beur jail. As per norms, she should have been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which could have sent her to a remand home.
Ruby was taken into custody by the Patna Police soon after she failed the re-test.
The results of Rubi and other toppers were put on hold after the scam came to light in May.
A total of 14 students were called for a re-test by the BSEB after a news channel broadcast a sting in which Ruby Rai said, “Prodikal (read political) science is about cooking,” and Saurabh Shreshtha, a Science topper, said, “Most reactive element in the periodic table is aluminium.”
