A senior Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) professor, died at the campus hospital after the authorities could not arrange an ambulance for him for over six hours. The chairman of the varsity’s Department of Modern Indian Languages D Murthy aged 64 passed away, bringing the establishment once again under the scanner for medical negligence.
Murthy was battling cancer and was on ventilator support. Campus surgeon Dr Mohd Aslam said that he had been referred to a Delhi hospital after his condition deteriorated following a surgery on Sunday.
Since his condition was critical, he could only be transported in a specially-equipped ambulance. But according to sources he had to wait for over six hours as the authorities failed to arrange an ambulance for him.
Murthy’s friend, Professor Shaikh Mastan, said the ambulance was not arranged in time and that there was no coordination between the Chief Medical Officer and the doctor.
Last month, five doctors of JNMC were booked for negligence after a student died of dengue during treatment at the hospital.
