Indian Navy’s all-women crew yacht INSV Mhadei created history as it covers 2,100 nautical miles voyage from Goa to Mauritius, through rough seas whipped up by the Southwest Monsoon, in 20 days.
This was the first voyage by an all-women crew on any Indian Navy vessel.
Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, a naval architect, is the first woman skipper of Mhadei.
The boat is crewed by Lieutenant P Swathi, Lieutenant Pratibha Jamwal (air traffic control specialists), Lieutenant Vijaya Devi, Sub Lieutenant Payal Gupta (both education officers) and Lieutenant B Aishwarya, a naval architect.
Mhadei had begun its journey from Goa on May 24.
On arrival at Port Louis, it was received by the Mauritian Coast Guard vessel retriever, in the presence of Acting High Commissioner of India and families of the Indian High Commission.
