Air Fares To Go Up With Levy To Fund Regional Connectivity Scheme

The air fares are all set to rise as the government announced  new taxes to fund the regional connectivity scheme, which aims to take the airlines sector in India to smaller cities.

Domestic flying will become more expensive with the Government imposing a levy of Rs 7,500 for flights of up to 1,000 km.

For flights between 1,000-1,500 km, the levy will be Rs 8,000 and for flights beyond 1,500 km, the levy will be Rs 8,500.

The regional connectivity scheme will be applicable on route length between 200 to 800 km. About 22 airports are to be connected under the regional connectivity scheme in the first phase.
