An Air India flight offloaded a 75-year-old woman, who was on a wheelchair, after being told the flight was overbooked.

An Air India flight offloaded a 75-year-old woman, who was on a wheelchair, after being told the flight was overbooked.

Rajesh Shukla was traveling New York and boarded the flight from Delhi. She was traveling there for her grandson’s first birthday.

When Shukla reached the check-in counter at the airport, the officials informed her that she was on standby as the flight was overbooked with passengers from a flight cancelled the previous night.

The incident became public after Rupal Tierra, her daughter, tweeted, “Air India has offloads my 70 year mother from her US flight because of overbooking. She is wheelchair-bound and scared. Please help! @airindiain”.

Finally, at 2.45 am she was given a a transit flight via Heathrow.
