Husband is usually defined as the protection shield of a woman, the patriarchal nature of our society has established him as the caretaker of a woman and her kids.
But a particular community on the outskirts of Delhi narrates a different story.
Women of Perna community are treated as the principal wage earners of the family.
The Perna community resides in Dharampur and have been practicing a form of inter-generational prostitution for long.
According to reports, women here are encouraged to enter into prostitution by their in-laws and life partners.
The process starts from their child hood only, they are made to believe at a very young age that prostitution is what they have to do, after marriage.
Well! their plight doesn’t end here, just for the sake of getting a wage earner, families in this community direct their boys to marry girls, as young as 17.
To earn their bread and butter, these women start searching for customers in the wee hours of day.
They try to cater to at least five customers per night.
They then go back home in the morning , cook meals for their family and children and get a few hours of sleep, before carrying on the whole cycle all over again.
